Hard Plastics (PVC, PP, PS)
Typical items we accept:
Plastic bottles, cups, lids
Hard plastic packaging e.g. yoghurt pots, margarine containers, food trays, cartons
Pipes, fittings
Window and door frames (rigid PVC)
Background info:
Hard plastics are becoming much more viable to recycle as there is increasing investment in polymer segregation technology combined with greater demand for sustainable manufacturing.
According to DEFRA all plastics make up 10% of household and commercial waste streams combined. McGrath handles in excess of 4000 tonnes of both hard and soft plastic waste each year.
McGrath Hard Plastics Recycling Solutions:
Either separated for bulky items or as a mixed recycling stream we provide a comprehensive and responsive collection service and would typically provide the one or more of the following containers/systems on-site for containment and bulking:
Internal recycling containers, roll-ons, wheeled containers, enclosed/open skips, balers
How it is recycled:
We segregate plastic items and bale them for bulk transport to local recycling centres where the material is ground down and passed through a series of cyclones and water baths to segregate into the different types of plastic.
The end product is either melted down directly and moulded into new shapes or shredded into flakes before being melted down and processed into granules. Recycled plastic is widely used in mainstream construction products such as damp-proof membrane, drainage pipes, ducting and flooring as well as some innovative products such as scaffolding boards or kerbstones.
We offer a genuine sustainable recycling solution that closes the loop on the PVC window manufacturing process by providing graded plastic products to our supplier who uses this feedstock to manufacture 100% recycled products.
KEY FACTS:
