Background info:
Over 4.5 million tonnes of wood waste is generated every year in the UK.
In April 2008 McGrath received £325k funding from the Waste & Resources Action Plan (WRAP) to install new capacity to process recycled wood into value-added products. The funding was provided as part of WRAP’s Capital Support Programme which encourages the sector to build new wood re-processing infrastructure targeted at higher value products.
McGrath Wood Recycling Solutions:
Small items of wood can be placed in mixed recycling containers but typically wood would be placed segregated or with other bulky recyclables in larger containers. We provide a comprehensive and responsive collection service and would usually provide the one or more of the following containers/systems on-site: Open or enclosed skip or rolonof container.
How it is recycled:
Any contaminants such as plastic, metals etc are removed manually and the wood-waste products are segregated into 3 different grades:
- Good quality timber is shredded and removed to a re-processing facility where it is re-constituted as wood-chip for the building trade
- Other grades are shredded and used as horticultural mulch or animal bedding
- Contaminated timber products (i.e. painted) are processed to generate energy (WtE)
KEY FACTS:
